By Omari Faulkner, ManTech Military Ambassador

There are several aspects of our corporate culture that distinguish ManTech from its peers.

We Are Mission Focused

At ManTech, we fully understand that today’s veterans are among the most sophisticated and experienced warriors the world has ever seen. They’ve also acquired skills that make them particularly valuable to us and to our customers. Therefore, we provide a host of resources for transitioning military members, veterans and military spouses.

It’s a key reason that nearly 50% of ManTech’s employees are veterans. We believe it is our duty and our mission to support those who serve and have served while Securing the Future® of our country.

We Succeed Together

Our ManTech team continuously develops and nurtures partnerships with nonprofit organizations and government agencies to ensure that our nation’s veterans and transitioning military families are gainfully employed.

Lathaniel Wilcox Sr - Full Dress

Recently, after successfully completing our ManTech DoD SkillBridge Apprenticeship Program, Lathaniel Wilcox, Sr. opted to join our ManTech family by accepting a full-time position here.

“During my apprenticeship, I learned that ManTech values and promotes growth, both personally and professionally, for their employees,” said Mr. Wilcox, a former Master Sergeant who served 20 years and five months on active duty in the United States Air Force.

“To me, it was apparent that ManTech truly values its employees and holds them to the highest standards.”

Mr. Wilcox recently completed his decorated military career as the Manager of the Professional Development Section for the Intercontinental Ballistic Missile Center (IBMC) of Excellence, headquartered at the Francis E. Warren Air Force Base near Cheyenne, Wyoming.

It is an honor to have him join our ManTech team and our ranks of military veterans as we continue our proud mission of supporting the women and men who serve our country.

From Military to Civilian - Transitioning Tips from One of Our Own

When asked why he first joined the ManTech DoD SkillBridge program, Mr. Wilcox said, “The military and ManTech provided this opportunity, and I wanted to enhance my marketability and become familiar with civilian processes and culture.”

He then offered this additional advice to those transitioning service members or veterans looking for a company to call home:

Take full advantage of the military’s separation programs, be it interview preparation, resume writing, certification/training, etc. These skills are valuable when seeking civilian employment.

If you don’t know, don’t be afraid to ask. Many times, military members fail to ask questions for fear of being looked down upon. I would highly encourage transitioning members to ask as many questions as possible to understand expectations, policy, and guidelines.

I have found during my transition that I’m not the only one with questions about a particular situation; your question could not only benefit you but also help others. And questions for clarification, which in turn could lead to process improvements in other areas as well.

Start preparing for your transition sooner rather than later by seeking knowledge in areas where you know you need improvement. When you get ahead of the game and do your research, you will understand more quickly the types of skills and attributes most valued by employers. Likewise, knowing your weaknesses will help you develop a plan to better prepare you for life after your military career.
