Case Study
U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Mission IT Transformation

Challenge

A component of DHS wanted to move its IT infrastructure (Servers, Network devices, ADEX, SharePoint, RIM and IOS, databases, SANs and NAS, and related tools and appliances) from legacy data centers to the DHS Private Cloud – and it needed to be load balanced and virtualized between 2 geographically dispersed facilities.

Solution

ManTech delivered IT Engineering Operations Support services, including: Program Management, Systems Engineering, Security Engineering, Multiplatform OS, Middleware and Database Support, Multiplatform Storage Management and Control, Multiplatform System Administration and Capacity Planning, and SharePoint Services, to achieve DHS’s goals. We provided operations and maintenance (O&M), software application development, database development, for more than 40 mission critical applications. ManTech  provided infrastructure engineering support to DHS’s Active Directory/Exchange/SANS/VM environment, as well as security initiatives.

Impact

ManTech successfully transitioned from the incumbent contractor in 22 days even though the proposed plan was 60 days. Due to unexpected customer needs at the time of award, ManTech was requested to transition in this accelerated time period, which we did successfully. This accomplishment was due to the agility and commitment of our company, the quality of our people, and our experience supporting mission critical IT infrastructure. We have reduced DHS’s IT costs, data center footprint and energy costs, maintenance and support costs, and positioned the agency to support “as a Service” offerings in the DHS Private Cloud to its diverse constituencies. ManTech was noted by the customer for excellent continuous quality delivery of designs, excellent preparation of changes to the infrastructure, and excellent engineering work.
